Ovaries remain active decades after menopause, study reveals

Medical Xpress reports a small study from Northwestern University and the Buck Institute, published in Aging Cell, that analysed 5,812 groups of proteins in normal ovarian tissue from 28 postmenopausal women ages 50 to 75. Older ovaries showed more inflammation- and remodeling-related proteins, and some proteins previously linked to ovarian cancer were more abundant, though all tissue appeared cancer-free. Researchers say whether these changes help or harm remains unknown.

Why it matters: Relevant to postmenopausal women aged 50 to 75 considering gynecologic surgery, and to the gynecologists and oncologists who counsel them.

ATTACH Platform May Optimize Solid‑Tumor Immunotherapy

Physicians Weekly reports on a preclinical study in the Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer describing ATTACH, a microfluidic platform from MD Anderson researchers that uses tumor cells and controlled shear stress to isolate tumor-reactive T cells by binding avidity. Tested in human and mouse systems, it is not a treatment, not ready for patients, and needs further validation including animal studies.

Why it matters: Relevant to oncology clinicians and referrers following early-stage research into cell therapies such as tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte therapy for solid tumors.

Robotic surgery enables effective and safe repair of hard-to-reach abdominal hernias

Medical Xpress reports a small retrospective study, published in Hernia, of 39 robotic repairs of lateral abdominal wall hernias performed between 2018 and 2025 in Israel. Every operation was completed robotically, most patients went home after one day, and no hernias returned during follow-up. Two patients needed another procedure for bowel obstructions. There was no comparison group, and the researchers call the results early.

Why it matters: Relevant to Maryland adults considering repair of a hernia along the side of the abdomen, and to the clinicians who refer patients for complex abdominal wall surgery.
