The gut‑muscle link: Why fermented foods could boost muscle health

Medical Xpress republishes a piece from The Conversation by researcher Dominic Farsi describing a review in Communications Biology on the proposed gut-muscle axis. The review found some protein-rich fermented foods, such as kefir, yogurt, cottage cheese and tempeh, may affect gut health, metabolism and inflammation, but little evidence shows gains in muscle mass or strength. The authors say direct trials are still needed.

Why it matters: Relevant to readers in rehabilitation or preventive care, and to clinicians discussing nutrition and muscle health, who follow research on diet and the gut microbiome.
