Gut mRNA tech supercharges vaccine and GLP-1 delivery
News-Medical, reporting a Georgia Institute of Technology release, describes a mouse study from Georgia Tech and Emory University published in ACS Nano. Researchers used microneedle injections to deliver lipid nanoparticle mRNA to different parts of the gut, finding the site changed where particles travelled, reaching pancreas and lymph nodes while reducing liver, lung and spleen uptake. Stomach-delivered GLP-1 mRNA improved blood sugar regulation in mice.
Why it matters: Relevant to clinicians and readers following early laboratory research on GLP-1 medicines and mRNA delivery methods, noting this work so far involves only mouse models.
